Pet Life Insurance – A New Trend In Pet Insurance Services
from:Many people consider their pets a bona-fide member of the family and as such, they will purchase not only health insurance for their pet but also pet life insurance as well! It is a rather new concept, offering benefits to pet owners due to the death of a pet. Currently, very few companies are offering pet life insurance but this type of plan does work in a similar fashion as life insurance for humans.
How It Works
Just like with human life insurance, the pet version works in much the same way in that you would pay a monthly premium for a particular policy. And just like with humans, pet life insurance may have clauses about pre-existing conditions, higher pricing for age, accidental death, death from natural causes and more.
You may have to submit a veterinarian’s report about your pet’s health to certify that it is healthy and does not have any pre-existing conditions. There also may be a waiting period before pet life insurance coverage starts, depending on where and when you purchased your pet. There may even be requirements that you must submit your pet for a mandatory examination each year to verify continued good health.
The basics of a pet life insurance plan, as mentioned before, are similar to what you may have on yourself. Depending on the specifications on your policy, you could be entitled to death benefits in the event of death by natural causes, freak accidents or just simple accidental death. Some plans will even cover death from terminal illnesses like cancer, respiratory ailments or even cardiovascular disease.
Who Typically Gets It
You may feel that making a few bucks off your pet after it dies is rather morbid, but breeders and people who raise show dogs will often purchase pet life insurance. They have invested a lot of money in veterinarian bills, grooming, supplies, food, and training, show fees and more. So when one of their beloved animals dies, at least they are recouping some of their investment.
Pet life insurance for breed animals and show animals may be more than that of an ordinary pet and the benefits could go up into the thousands. However, for an ordinary family pet, the insurance benefit would probably be enough to cover the original purchase price of the pet as well as final veterinarian bills. Only you are the best judge as to whether or not pet life insurance is the best option for your lifestyle, budget and of course, your beloved pet.
